Job Introduction

Working Hours: 8 hours per week

Interview Date: 04 December 2026

Could you help keep our collections organised, discoverable and ready for our customers?

As Stock & Bibliographic Services Practitioner, you will provide practical, hands-on support for the management of library stock and collections across Rutland’s four libraries. Working under the direction of the Stock & Reader Development Officer, you’ll undertake a range of bibliographic, stock and collections tasks, helping to keep our collections accurate, well organised and accessible. You’ll also contribute to reader development, outreach and wider library projects, playing an important behind-the-scenes role in making sure our libraries have the stock and support they need to deliver a great service.

About the Role

In this role, you will be:

• Undertaking stock editing, maintenance and processing, including updating stock records and carrying out basic cataloguing.

• Monitoring stock reservations and rotations, and taking the administrative lead for the Inter-Library Loan service.

• Supporting the organisation, maintenance and presentation of stock and collections, working with Library Practitioners and the Stock & Reader Development Officer as required.

• Carrying out a range of routine collections, bibliographic and administrative tasks to support the wider service.

• Moving, packing, unpacking, shelving and organising library stock, helping to ensure collections are where they need to be and ready for customers.

Additional Requirements

The successful candidate will be required to undertake an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. Costs for the DBS are covered by Rutland County Council.

Please note that you will need a full driving licence to enable you to travel across the county.

About You

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys practical, behind-the-scenes work to develop specialist experience in library stock, collections and bibliographic services, while making a direct contribution to the experience of our customers.

To succeed in this role, you will be:

• Well organised and accurate, with the ability to manage practical and administrative tasks effectively.

• Confident using computerised systems and maintaining accurate records and information.

• A good communicator who works effectively with colleagues and customers.

• Interested in books, reading and library collections, with an enthusiasm for creating attractive and engaging library environments.

• Experience of library services, stock management, bookselling, archives/records management or similar work would be advantageous.
